ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the structural alterations in functional brain areas of patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) using voxel-based morphometry (VBM), and to investigate the abnormal region of grey matter and its distribution in DPN.Methods:A total of 124 patients with DPN and 88 patients with type 2 diabetes without DPN (NDPN) diagnosed in Haikou Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Pharmaceutical University from June 2019 to December 2020 were selected as the study subjects, and 40 healthy volunteers matched with gender and age were included as the control group.All subjects underwent whole-brain MRI examination, and 3D-T1WI data were collected for post-processing and analysis based on voxel morphological analysis.Results:Compared with NDPN patients, decreased gray matter volume in DPN patients was observed in the bilateral anterior central gyrus and thalamus, with statistical signifcant difference ( P<0.05), and there was no significant difference between the two sides ( P>0.05). Compared with healthy control group, decreased gray matter volume in DPN was observed in the the bilateral anterior central gyrus, central posterior gyrus, superior frontal gyrus and thalamus, with statistical signifcant difference ( P<0.05) and there was no significant difference between the two sides ( P>0.05). Conclusions:DPN patients also have decreased volumes of the brain greymatter, suggesting that the occorrence of DPN patients may be caused by the of injury of central structure.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the value of serum IgA/C3 ratio in the diagnosis of IgA nephropathy and explore its relationship with the clinicopathological features of the patients.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty-six patients with IgA nephropathy, 111 with other glomerular diseases, and 40 healthy control subjects without kidney disease were tested for serum IgA and C3 levels using CRM470 adjusted standardized immune turbidimetric method, and the IgA/C3 ratio was calculated. According to Oxford and Lee's classification criteria, we analyzed the pathological grades of the renal biopsy samples from patients with IgA nephropathy. The ROC curve was used to assess the value of serum IgA and IgA/C3 ratio in predicting IgA nephropathy.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Patients with IgA nephropathy had an elevated serum IgA/C3 ratio than those with other glomerular diseases and the control subjects, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.776. An elevated serum IgA/C3 ratio was not found to significantly correlate with the pathological grade of renal biopsy samples in patients with IgA nephropathy.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>In the absence of renal biopsy findings, serum IgA/C3 ratio can help in the diagnosis of IgA nephropathy.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the role of activities of sympathetic nerve in the pathogenesis of shoulder-hand syndrome (SHS) by analyzing the hand sympathetic skin response (SSR) at the acute stage of SHS after stroke. Methods 50 stroke patients with SHS at the acute stage were assigned as SHS group, another 50 stroke patients without SHS as control group (N-SHS group) and 50 health volunteers as health group. Every patient was subjected to the detection of bilateral hand SSR. Results The detection rates of SSR in the SHS group and N-SHS group were significantly lower than that in the Health group (P 0 . 05 ) . In comparison with the health group , bilateral SSR latencies of the SHS group were longer than those of the health group (P<0.05) and bilateral SSR amplitudes were all lower than those of the health group (P<0.01). Conclusions The bilateral hand sympathetic skin responses could change at the acute stage of SHS after stroke, with possible presentations of central inhibition of sympathetic activity. The abnormality of SSR may be an early warning indicator in patients with hemiplegia after stroke complicated with SHS.

ABSTRACT

It is considered that the central nervous system (CNS) is an immunologically privileged organ, but its immunological privilege is not complete, and immunological rejection may also occurred after tissue transplantation. Neural stem cell (NSC) transplantation has developed a brand-new approach for the treatment of various CNS diseases. Despite the low immunogenicity of NSC, there are also troubles of immunological rejection. This article reviews the immunological characteristics of CNS, the mechanisms of immunological response and immunological rejection in CNS, as well as the problems of immunological rejection of NSC transplantation.

ABSTRACT

Obejective To study the effects of polysaccharide L01 from Laminaria on the expression and secretion of plasminogen activator inhibitor- 1 (PAI- 1) stimulated by adrenaline in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC). Methods With adrenaline added, human umbilical vein endothelial cell line ECV- 304 was exposed to different concentrations of polysaccharide L01 of Laminaria and cultured for 24, 48, and 72 hours respectively in vitro. The levels of PAI- 1 in cultured supernants were measured with enzyme- linked immunosorbent assay( ELISA) .Reverse transcriptase chain reaction( RT- PCR) was used to detect the expression of PAI- 1 messenger RNA( mRNA) in HUVEC, and the related products were examined by density scan and half- quantitative analysis after electrophoresis.
